Artist Statement

My graphic fiction is connected with the theme of fantasy and imagination. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been fascinated with how artists are able to utilize their imagination to create such grand worlds of fantasy through their medium. Ever since then, I have wanted to share my imagination through illustration.

I want to investigate the relationship between fantasy and reality. I believe that fantasy represents the heightened good of reality, which the imagination is able to bring to new heights. As an artist, this is what I want to be able to do.

The concept I have decided on was to create a children’s storybook about a magical land of toys. I created a printed-out book. The illustrative style has a childlike look to it, utilizing texture and color to create a look of a child making crafts but a bit more polished. I want the children to enjoy the adventure and magic, and the adults to be able to relate the characters’ experience to their own childhood.
