Amanda Jernigan, Georgia College and State University

Abstract

The purpose of this study will be to examine the effects of different types of music on the stress levels of college students. The data will be used to see if the music reduces or increases the participant's stress levels as well as to see which types of music change their stress levels the most. Pre-tests and post-tests will be administered to the participants in order to gain data from the music selection. Different genres of music will be used for each of the trials. There will be three trials that require the participants occuring on three separate days. The three genres that the study will utilize are classical, popular, and hard rock. The specific selections will be determined at a later date before beginning the research. The participants will complete their pre-test, listen to the entire selection of music for that particular trial, and complete a post-test following the end of that piece of music.
