Visceral is a group online exhibition contributed by 16 students in the Department of Art at Georgia College & State University. With an array of media including Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Art Installations, and Graphic Design pieces, Visceral aims to share their diverse perspectives. The online exhibition ran from Monday April 20th to Wednesday September 30th, 2020.

Jacalyn Carper, from Rincon, Georgia, graduates in May 2020 with a BA degree in Fine Art Studio with a focus in ceramics. She has always had a passion for art and for teaching. Jacalyn has had several opportunities to showcase her work and to teach ceramics in such settings as Kids-n-Clay and Night of 100 Pots during her time as a ceramic student. She also had the privilege to collaborate in ceramic student shows such as the Cherokee Brick Company exhibition and the Ice Cream CBEL art-in-action event. Jacalyn has a heart for both ceramics and people, which led to the development of her narrative ceramic vessels series. The concepts of her pieces primarily focus on human interactions and relationships and her choice of medium has great variety and is dependent on the concept that she wishes to create. Raasha Gutierrez, from Johns Creek, Georgia, is a Fine Art Studio Concentration student who focuses on ceramics. She discovered her love for ceramic her Junior year of college after taking an upper level ceramics course. Her style is slip casting with complex molds for figurative work along with a love for throwing. Her goal is to use art to advocate for compelling, unheard stories.

Haley Janes is a multimedia 2-D artist specializing in works that revolve around aesthetic and self-expression. Born in Italy, and spending 5 years of her childhood in Lakenheath, England, she grew up taking in the many influences that “classical art” offers in the form of monuments. That influence in tandem with her great love of fiction has led to art becoming a key form of expression in her life, and what she hopes to be a career in creating media for the United States Government. Chloe Keadle is originally from Perry, Georgia. There she attended Georgia Military College and soon moved on to pursue a BA in Fine Arts at Georgia College and State University. She will be graduating in May 2020. Chloe has been a very active artist having an exhibition in the Sally Ellis Davis House, Milledgeville, Ga, Participating in Empty Bowls for Milledgeville food bank, and a collaboration with the Cherokee Brick Company for sculptural work.While enrolled at Georgia College Chloe has been honing her skills in ceramics and painting for the past several years. Originally a painter, Chloe blended her skills with her passion of ceramics to create three dimensional works of art with intricate detail. Chloe’s evolution into three dimensional art making allowed her to challenge the boundaries of figurative characteristics, utilizing animals and human figures to explore the depths of relationships and compositions.

Sierra Kirsche, from Athens, Georgia, is a Fine Arts Studio Major student with an emphasis in ceramics and sculpture. Her work is mainly based in high-fire stoneware as she draws from her experiences in nature as inspiration in creating her style. Her passion for ceramics began in 2015 at Good Dirt in Athens which led her to pursue a fine arts degree at Georgia College & State University. In pursuing her passions, Sierra has interned with R. Wood Studios in Athens and worked as a studio assistant to artist and professor, Sandra Trujillo, from 2018-2020. Ashley Black Kobbe, originally from Camden, South Carolina, will graduate with honors and receive her BA in Fine Art Studio from Georgia College and State University in May 2020. Her research is focused on the alternative photographic process cyanotype because of its ability to convey a sense of calm and peacefulness. As an artist, she has been active in the community and participated in Empty Bowls for Middle Georgia Food Bank, collaborated with the Cherokee Brick Company for large sculptural projects and exhibited her cyanotypes at Allied Arts.

Jon Masters is originally from Buford, GA and will graduate in May 2020. He will receive his BA in Arts concentrating in Graphic Design with a Marketing minor. As an artist, he has always included the business-side of brands and products, including a target demographic and key competitive advantages. He has done multiple brand redesigns for clients and is currently on the rebranding team of a startup in Atlanta. Alyssa McCarley is an artist from Locust Grove, Georgia majoring in Art with a concentration in Fine Arts (Studio) and a minor in Business Administration. She has worked in her communities both in Locust Grove and Milledgeville to create colorful mural pieces for local businesses and fostered a relationship with the community by tabling her art at the local Deep Roots Festival. Her background consists mostly of printmaking, painting, and nontraditional sculpture often rooted in controversial topics such as capitalism, and politics. While also working on design work, she sometimes features “ugly”, or “gruesome” characters. Jenny McLure of Columbia, South Carolina is a senior studying Fine Arts Studio at Georgia College & State University. She is a multidisciplinary artist that works in drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and painting. While she creates work in each of these forms, she mainly works in sculptural form using a variety of media. With the goal of becoming a high school art educator, Jenny has taken action by leading several groups in painting activities and working as a Practicum student for several of her professors. Ansel Moore is a senior Fine Arts student at Georgia College. He works with printmaking processes, specifically linoleum block carvings. He uses a black and white color scheme to create clean, graphic pieces. His most recent works are a series of large-scale carvings of birds that each represent virtues of the human spirit. He hopes to continue exploring this theme of birds’ symbolic values in the future.
