The fourth annual “Posters at the Georgia Capitol” will take place in the Spring of 2022. Any student who is enrolled as an undergraduate student in the Spring of 2022 in a public or private Institution located in the State of Georgia is eligible to apply. Posters at the Georgia State Capitol applications will be accepted through January 28, 2022 at 5:30 p.m.
Applicants with presentation experience across a variety of audiences receive priority. Research that crosses disciplines or has multiple disciplinary implications are preferred; however, other quality research will be considered. Presenting at the Capitol does NOT require that you submit research that has not been presented by you previously, but it is recommended that you submit a research project that has been accepted and that you have presented within the last two academic years at another conference. There is no registration or attendance fee associated with Posters at the Georgia State Capitol.

- Name of the Department Chair at lead student’s enrolled institution and email address
- Mentors(s) first and last name, email address, and telephone number
- Co-presenter(s) first and last name, email address, and telephone number
- Providing an electronic copy of the poster (drafts acceptable) no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 9, 2022 via email to postersatcapitol@gcsu.edu
- Proofreading your poster. Posters with any vulgarity or political agendas are subject to rejection by the State government representative for this event.
- Prepare an abstract of a minimum words acceptable word count of 200 but no more than the maximum acceptable words of 250 (any abstracts that do not meet these criteria will not be sent for review). The abstract must be written for an educated audience who does NOT have experience in your field of study. Be sure to have your faculty mentor guide you in writing the abstract.
- Write a 1-2 sentence description of the significance of your research to the discipline and the uniqueness of your research.
- Have your mentor prepare a letter of recommendation to be uploaded at time of application. If there is more than one mentor, then mentors should write a combined letter. The letter must include the following:
- Status of the project and probability of completion by March 1, 2022,
- Acknowledgement that the student did the research,
- Statement as to the student’s command of the subject matter,
- Statement that speak to the student presenter’s communication skills,
- Statement that Identifies the student’s previous experiences of presenting material to various audiences,
- Include mentor(s)’ contact information, and
- Save the letter in a .doc or .pdf formation for uploading in the application.
- Prepare a 250 word or less biography on your prior research, work experience, or volunteer experience
- Prepare a brief discussion of your presentation experience (250 words or less) both to academic and non-academic audiences
Note: A previous oral presentation may converted to a poster presentation
A poster is a static, visual medium (usually of the paper or board variety) that students use to communicate their research. The difference between poster and paper presentations is that students should let their poster do most of the "talking." Up to 40 quality undergraduate research posters will be selected for presentation.
- Only those listed as the first and/or second presenter will be permitted to present. The number of presenters at the poster is limited to one at a time with no more than two possible presenters available to present at all times. All other co-presenters’ names are eligible to be listed as co-presenters on the poster but will not be listed as presenters;
- The material presented on the poster should convey the essence of the research message;
- Student who fills out the application MUST be present during the designated time to answer questions and provide further details,
- Poster requirements are landscape or portrait 36" tall by 44" wide or 44" tall x 36" wide;
- If funding was received for any part of the research project or for presenting the research, then the funding agency or agencies must be identified on the poster;
- If your research is selected for presentation, you will be responsible for the following:
- Providing an electronic copy of the poster (drafts acceptable) no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 9, 2022 via email to postersatcapitol@gcsu.edu (Posters with any vulgarity or political agendas are subject to rejection by the State government representative for this event)
- Covering expenses related to the presentation (contact your college or university for potential financial support): No expenses are covered by the GURC for poster creation, displaying of the poster, or any other expenses related to the GURC Posters at the Georgia State Capitol. (Contact your institution for support before applying for the event).
- Arrive at the presentation site by 1:00 p.m. on presentation day in order to have time to set up to start at 2 p.m.
- Dress is business professional attire
- Demonstrate professional presentation behavior at all times
- We highly encourage mentors to attend to support their students (though the students will do the presentation).
