Music Preference and Academic Performance
Abstract
This study is to evaluate the relationship between music preference and academic performance. The strategy used to conduct this study is a survey. The methodology is data collection, taking into consideration socioeconomic background, music preference, and academic performance. Socioeconomic background will be considered by determining the race/ethnicity of the individual, family makeup, spiritual beliefs, hometown, and family income. Music preference is determined by evaluating the genres most listened to by the individual during childhood and their current age. The different genres considered range from 1940s to present music, in the styles of Pop, Rock/Heavy Metal/Punk, Country, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Alternative, Indie, Rap/Hip Hop, R&B, Bluegrass, Jazz, Classical, Big Band, and World Music. The message and lyrics of the song will also be assessed. Lastly, academic performance will be evaluated. The population represented in this study are Georgia College and State University students.
