Mobile Application for Georgia College Students: Design Research Study to Increase connection between Georgia College students and Georgia College

Abstract

In this study, through examining the needs of Georgia College Students in relation to their academic lives and campus activities, I have created an app that allows for students to be more connected to Georgia College. Georgia College students have information coming at them from all different directions resulting in confusion and chaos, but my app seamlessly combines all that information into one channel allowing students to receive a wide-range of information in one place. The GCgo app will give students access to campus events, academic announcements and their bobcat cards at all times of the day and night. This app allows students to track their friends on campus, and includes an interactive map where students can alert one another about campus events or even class changes. The app also includes a calendar where students can easily sync up to their google calendar if they have one, and students can add events to their calendar through the interactive map or today page. The today page will take place of the front page, which is emailed out to Georgia College Students daily and barely receives any recognition. With the GCgo app students will receive alerts/notifications (if wanted) about upcoming events, friend’s locations, class changes and announcements. One of the best features of this app is its built-in scanner connected to the student’s bobcats ID. With their bobcat ID at their fingertips students will be able to have more access to the library and on-campus restaurants. With the GCgo app, students will be more connected to Georgia College with access to everything they need for a successful day.
