Abstract
This presentation explores the importance of fall prevention in the hospital setting regarding elderly clientele. Fall prevention is crucial to the holistic care of the elderly. Statistics indicate that falling provokes a downward spiral in the health of the elderly. A literature review was conducted to determine if there was a greater reduction in fall risk associated with patient knowledge of the use of assistive devices compared with nurses understanding how to prevent falls. In order to adhere to the highest standards or nursing research, specific guidelines and databases were used. The literature indicated that through the research gathered, knowledge and understanding on proper usage of assistive devices and preventative measures is needed among both nurses and elderly in order to prevent falls.
