Abstract

The history books will detail heinous crimes of international slave trades for economic and political gain that was an accepted practice during their day. However, the ability and market exploit humans has never ceased. Traffickers de-humanize the victims to lives of hard labor, sexual exploitation, including prostitution and marriage, and forced military service. Atlanta is the number one hub for human trafficking and child sex exploitation in the United States. As Atlanta has grown to be an international cosmopolitan, the rise of human trafficking victims has also increased. By understanding slavery as a global theme, the exploration of patterns, reasons and trends in the Atlanta area will assist in the acknowledgement of this crime so close to home and public knowledge of how to identify this crime.
