Abstract
This thesis examines whether the One and Done Rule has affected rookie performance in the NBA since it was implemented in 2006. This rule has been the source of controversy in both college and the NBA because it is making high school stars wait at least one year before entering the NBA draft. Data was taken from the top 25 draft picks in the NBA from the years of 1995 thru 2012, and using a difference-in-differences model I compared the results from before the rule was implemented to after. Found that overall rookie performance increased after the rule was in place, but not rookies that only stayed one year in college. Also found that seventeen teams had an influence on rookie performance along with four years, but overall the one and done rule had no affect on rookie performance.
