Abstract
The authors propose the outcomes from democratic living and learning as a signature pedagogy for middle grades teacher education. Additionally, they explore the concept of professionalism in conjunction with signature pedagogies and disciplinary habits of mind in middle level teacher preparation as a theoretical construct, and they offer these concepts as a theoretical basis for elevating the distinctive disciplinary field of middle level teacher preparation to ensure a viable future for the equitable education of young adolescents.
