Abstract

It's no surprise that the United States is known for their right to bear arms. For this study age and feelings on banning of assault weapons were analyzed from the August 2016 Political Survey Dataset. Comparing the ages of how people feel on banning assault weapons sheds some light on who is responsible for buying assault weapons and what characteristics make them feel like they need to own a assault weapon. Using SPSS through cross-tabulation analysis on the data ages were compared to feelings on banning assault weapons while controlling gender, education level, political party, race, if the voter owns a gun, and if owning a gun makes them feel safer. The results showed that younger generations highly favored banning these weapons whereas the older age groups was very against banning weapons. With this research there can begin to have a deeper understanding of the resistance to a weapons ban in the United States.
