Abstract
What follows is John Lowe’s reading text for his 2023 NEH Summer Institute lecture for “Reconsidering Flannery O’Connor.” We thank Thadious M. Davis for doing some polishing of the text after Lowe’s passing, though there are still significant, unavoidable gaps in the article. There are, for example, no Works Cited pages. As one works with this text, one should also watch the video of Lowe’s lecture, which is available on the Flannery O’Connor Institute for the Humanities website.
