Abstract

"Drag in Milledgeville" is a student created, participatory style, documentary. It follows two students and their experiences as they prepare to perform for the Pride Alliance Drag Show. The documentary explores themes of gender expression and gender identity. This project was created by queer people for queer people. It understands the need for not just positive representation but diverse representation in LGBTQIA+ media. When creating the film our team of filmmakers hoped to capture some of the positive experiences one might achieve if given the room to explore abstract concepts such as gender. The story is overwhelmingly positive in its themes and messaging. This makes our documentary stand out among other content created revolving around queer people and their experiences.
