Project Title
Digital Arts in the Videogame Industry
Faculty Mentor(s) Name(s)
William Fisher
Abstract
From character artists to environment designers, animators to effects artists, and 3-D modelers to actors, it takes a village to create the artwork for a video game. As video games stand at the intersection between art, music, storytelling, and audience participation, it’s essential to understand the work that goes into the fourth-largest entertainment industry in the world. This presentation examines the various programs used for digital painting and the techniques employed by industry professionals to achieve the quality of their artwork. The results of these findings will be displayed through the creation of brand-new works and will be used to assist students in bridging the gap between amateur and professional. Most importantly, it seeks to answer the nebulous question looming over many blossoming students: What exactly does it take to become a professional artist in the video game industry?
