The Dobbs Decision & Our Community
Faculty Mentor(s) Name(s)
Stefanie Sevcik
Abstract
11.36 million women in 26 states are likely to live in a place that bans abortion after the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. This is our reality. Through our research and event, we are partnering with the Women’s Center in an attempt to spread awareness of discrimination in reproductive health and justice for women. Our event relates to the goals of the community to inform as we are making sure the students of Georgia College are aware of current events and how the decision of Roe v Wade is making an impact on our lives and the lives of women in Baldwin County.
The point of our event and service learning project was to create a space that provided an informational outlet about the effects of the supreme court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and its impacts on reproductive health and justice. Students and faculty had a platform to share their voices, opinions, and questions in an environment. Part of our panel included a SCOTUSBlog informational video that provided a detailed timeline of everything that led up to the Dobbs decision that had an unbiased point of view of the topic to the panel and the attendees. With a topic that can spark controversy and debate, our group felt the need to provide an informational outlet that impacts our community in an informative and positive way.
