Chilopoda is all about movement. I found the way centipedes move their many legs to be fascinating as I wanted to recreate the essence of their way of life. Since centipedes are typically found in dark, moist environments I glazed the whole piece in black; however, I chose to glaze the centipedes with a glossy finish to recreate the texture of the species as well as have them stand out against a matte vase.
Symbiosis is a visual commentary on the relationship between self and environment. The vessels act as a manmade element while each of the attached ornaments, inspired by local species, compliment the shape and movement of each piece. Each work reflects the impressionable and impactful nature of how mankind interacts with the natural world, and vice versa.
