Baseball meant a lot to my brother. It was one of the many things he excelled at and was the main sport he was known for. I chose to paint a baseball to represent the many times that he excelled in the sport.
My paintings are inspired by my brother and his passing back in 2013. I use family photos as references as well as objects that belonged to him. Each painting represents a personal memory. I have chosen to keep each painting in grayscale to emphasize memory as well as a sense of loss. In Requiem, my main title piece for this series, I have used a picture that is a memorial picture as well as kept the painting more abstract to emphasize memory. I use these techniques to express my feelings of grief for the loss of my brother but also to honor his memory.
