Abstract

Cultural factors have a significant impact on the perception of women's mental health in the United States. These factors shape societal attitudes, influence help-seeking behaviors, contribute to the stigma associated with mental health, and affect the overall understanding of women's mental well-being. Key elements that have a significant impact on our perception of women’s mental health are negative stereotypes placed on women seeking mental health treatment, the gender roles that lead to generalized assumptions about women, and the media's unrealistic portrayals of women's lives and how they should be conducted. Moreover, having a well rounded understanding of these factors would have the potential to improve women’s mental health in a monumental way. Understanding and addressing these factors in a thorough manner can result in a more supportive and inclusive cultural environment, in turn improving women's mental health experiences.
