Abstract
Solid-state [2+2] photodimerization reaction of cinnamic acid is known and has been well studied. Ortho-Me cinnamic acids are comparatively reluctant to react under photodimerization conditions. We have probed this reactivity in the presence of transition metals. We have created the photo dimers from 4-chloro-trans-cinnamic acid. These photo dimer derivatives have uses in anti-inflamatory pharmaceuticals.
