Abstract
My research is about the design process for creating utilitarian tableware. I contributed designs for a class project "tableware" that also involved help from other community members to support the 2014 Newell Scholar community project. In the design process, I considered method, tactility and form. I created designs to fit the hand and the environment where they would be used - Andalusia. The dishes I made are small simple organic forms that are suitable for appetizer style foods. My intent was to make pieces that would be easy to carry. I looked to Eva Zeisel, a 20th artist, to ground my work within the tradition of ceramic tableware design. Similar to her, I am interested in the functionality of my work and the relationship between the user and the ceramic object.
