Abstract

The adolscent generation of today's society has be emerssed in technology since birth. Student s in high school today are very different from student of only ten or twebry years ago. Today, students are experts in navigating through a wide array of different electronic instruments. Inventions such as smart phones, electronic tablets, and soctal media provide people today with a vast amount of information directly at their finger tips. and this wealth of knowledge have forever changed societu as we knew it. Just as our society has adapted to these advancements in technology, so should our classrooms. Now, more so than ever, teachers are finding it difficult to grasp students attention with their old methods for teaching. Students become easily bored and cannot relate to content due to this. On content that has exceptional difficulties with engagement is Social Studies. This problems is centered around the outdated pedagogy of reading and taking notes every day. While this may have worked well in the past, this method is dying out because most studenta find it painfully boring, and would rather sleep than listen to non stop lectures. Therefore, in my research I will attempt to test the trend of incorporating more technology in the social studies classroom to determine whether or not this abundance of technological resources helps students become engaged or if instead it only brings about new forms of distractions.
