Abstract

This research will investigate whether teaching the history behind mathematics will increase student engagement. Often students can easily become distracted and disengaged when learning a new mathematical concept. Will integrating the history behind math create more student engagement in the lesson at hand? Can methods such as reading a children book or researching a mathematician increase the engagement of students who would otherwise be uninterested?
