Abstract
This paper looks at the effect of sleep deprivation on school performance. Previous research on sleep deprivation reports negative impact of insufficient amount of sleep on academic, athletic, and behavioral performance. This study takes a different approach, including demographic and behavioral variables into the regression. To conduct this research I used survey data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Controlling for several demographic variables I used High School GPA to measure school performance with sleep deprivation being my key independent variable. The estimates suggest that sleep does not have statistically significant effect on GPA; however, students that frequently skip school perform worse academically.
