Abstract
The purpose of this reasearch is to examine ways to reinvigorate discussion of basic literary terms in the high school classroom. By the time they reach highschool many students have strongly internalized such concepts as setting and tone in ways that ultimately do not help them come to a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the texts they interact with. Focusing on techniques created by Smith and Wilhelm, I created a unit which aimed to revisit those old literary terms and turn them into things which students can actually use to assist in their appreciation of literature.
