Abstract
The goal of this project is to isolate the separate components of certain over the counter antihistamines through acid-base extraction and thin layer chromatography (TLC). In previous work, TLC was used to identify the different compounds of three over the counter drugs: Benadryl, Benadryl D, and Sudafed PE. Unfortunately, different spots were not identified. In this experiment, acid-base extraction will be used to separate the active compound in Benadryl from other components. Once isolated, the active compound will be subjected to TLC.
