Abstract
Concussions have become a hot topic in the past 5 years due to new research being published on the dangers of concussions and the after effects down the road. With this research becoming more popular, more people are becoming concerned about properly protecting football players, most importantly the children who are playing the game. While awareness is a big step in preventing these injuries, are the schools and teams themselves using this new data to better protect the players? The goal of this study is to find out what helmets local high schools are using for their teams and comparing this data to scientific data as to which helmets are better quality for protecting players. Within this project we will look at the causes of concussions, the history of the NFL’s stance on concussions, and the newest data in regards to helmet technology and concussion testing.
