Project Title

The Imposter Trio

Faculty Mentor(s) Name(s)

Andrew Allen

Abstract

We have been greatly encouraged and championed from the start by our wonderful coach and faculty mentor, Dr. Andrew Allen, as he has guided us and found incredible performance and networking opportunities for us to plug into, which we will speak on in our presentation. We received MURACE support to fund our trip to perform as a small chamber ensemble at the American Single Reed Summit at USC in Columbia, SC in October ‘22. A few days after the research day presentation, we will be performing a newly commissioned piece by a grad student composer, as a world premiere, at the North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference. We were able to make these connections which have made this opportunity possible through attendance at the Single Reed conference last fall and look forward to such encounters again looking ahead to this soon-approaching large-scale national event. After our first few semesters of working together, it quickly became clear that we were not the typical trio arrangement for small chamber ensembles. We will also speak on our experiences with having an unusual instrumentation for our chamber group and the challenges and rewards it has brought for us as individuals and musicians in our discipline. There will also be a recording available from our conference performance.
