Abstract
This action research will investigate the relationship of extrinsic rewards and students’ engagement and how that affects their performance in the classroom. The research will focus on identified academically low performing students. I will introduce a rewards system into students’ daily bell ringer questions. The interest in this research question comes from my observations during student teaching. I have observed teachers using extrinsic rewards assuming they are being effective without real investigation into the topic. The goal of this research is to determine the effectiveness of extrinsic rewards for low achieving students inside my classroom.
