Abstract

The various types of social studies are an inherently personal discipline with infinite personal applications. Because history specifically is the human narrative of the past, students are prone to make personal connections to the material. Psychologists have determined that emotional connections to content help the brain restore the information better and for longer periods of time. This research study intends to observe how students, when given the opportunity, reflect upon lessons’ applications on their lives and discuss the concepts and ideas with their peers to see how this affects their comprehension of the concepts and issues presented.
