Abstract

The 21st-century learning environment has undergone significant transformation, placing greater emphasis on the social-emotional aspects of education. Extensive research underscores the pivotal role of social-emotional learning (SEL) in fostering students' academic, social, and emotional development (Lehr & Roth, 2017). Teachers have emerged as crucial facilitators in providing resources to address students' socio-emotional needs, yet many face challenges due to inadequate resources and support (Roth, 2018). In rural communities, obstacles like limited financial resources and personnel shortages pose significant barriers to meeting the social-emotional learning needs of students (Nichols et al., 2017). This project aims to conduct a needs analysis focusing on rural teachers' priorities in supporting their students' social-emotional learning development. By addressing these priorities, the study seeks to bridge the gap between the growing importance of SEL and the challenges faced by educators in rural settings, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of SEL practices in diverse educational contexts.
